We know she has immeasurable musical talent! We know she is indispensable in organizing and producing the Grymes class plays. However, many of us did NOT know that Mrs. Stakem is a dedicated Scout leader. She recently shared stories and photos from her two-week leadership journey at the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico – the Boy Scouts of America’s premier High Adventure base.
Mrs. Stakem presented the principles of “Leave No Trace”, which guide the ways in which one can sustainably and responsibly enjoy our wild resources. Though many items are specific to outdoor recreation, it’s amazing how many of these concepts overlap with the Pillars of our school: respect, honor, kindness, and responsibility.
Seven Principles of “Leave No Trace”
- Plan ahead & prepare
- Travel and camp on durable surfaces
- Dispose of waste properly
- Leave what you find
- Minimize campfire impacts
- Respect wildlife
- Be considerate of athers
Thank you, Mrs. Stakem, for sharing your journey and insights with us – such a valuable message!
